The Unyielding Path of Authenticity: Why True Spiritual Leaders Must Walk the Talk

The journey of conscious living is not merely about acquiring knowledge; it is about embodying truth. This principle, often summarised as “Walk the Talk,” has emerged as a central tenet in my own spiritual evolution, shaped by personal experiences, profound insights, and moments of stark reflection.

The Heart of Genuine Connection: Co-creation in Practice

Recently, our “Round Table Discussions & Heart Activation Music” group session, held on Friday, September 9, 2016, was an absolute highlight. The energy was electric, and the feedback, as always, was incredibly beautiful. It’s always a joy to welcome new faces into the group, and during the ‘feedback’ segment of the evening, one new participant shared an experience that left us all in collective awe. She spoke of only just beginning to open herself to these profound spiritual concepts, and the resounding “WOW!” heard throughout the room perfectly encapsulated the shared amazement.

This particular session also provided the perfect opportunity to experiment with a specific technique—an innovative idea gifted to me by Amy, designed to help participants meet their Spirit Guides directly. I had been sitting with this concept, refining it in my mind for several weeks. Witnessing its profound success in the group, I found myself echoing that universal “WOW!” feeling of profound wonder.

These sessions truly embody what it means to be real and genuine. Amy and I work in such seamless synergy when we lead the initial discussions, but the true magic of the evening is born from the contributions of every individual present. Everyone shares their experiences, offers support, and engages in authentic dialogue. In this sacred space of co-creation, every person spontaneously becomes both the teacher and the student. Everyone contributes to everyone else’s understanding, and I am consistently learning and inspired to try new approaches. It is, quite simply, brilliant.

A Week of Transformation: Navigating Personal Growth and External Challenges

As I reflect on that impactful weekend, and recap the events of the week that followed, a powerful narrative of personal transformation emerges. This period has been instrumental in a significant “shifting of gears” within me, particularly concerning my sense of confidence and inner strength. I’ve been deeply engaged in this work, supported by David Allan’s HypnoJourney sessions at New Dimension Vitality in Fremantle. The past three weeks, working within this group and alongside Amy, have been nothing short of mind-blowing in terms of personal growth and transformation. I eagerly anticipate sharing more of these insights in our upcoming Monday night session.

Professionally, I’ve also begun a compelling collaboration with LifeGrid Magazine, where we’ve achieved remarkable progress, reaching milestones far faster than anticipated. Despite these exciting developments, my own business operations have taken a back seat; after a full day, the thought of another computer screen is often unappealing, even if it means delaying graphic design for expos or creating brochures.

However, the most intriguing event of the week, and the very impetus for writing this reflection, pertains to a pivotal personal journey. While Amy and I continue to make great strides—scheduling meetings, coordinating expo activities, collaborating with the magazine, making calls, meeting new people, and consciously addressing surfacing fears—I’ve recently come to a point of truly anchoring myself into the “now moment.” This foundational stability proved essential in facing an unexpected test of integrity.

What transpired was a startling display from an individual who claims to be a professional healer, a purported “preacher of new ways.” This person erupted in a temper tantrum simply because my priority lay in what was right for my growth, my business, and my career. This outburst, triggered by something utterly trivial in a professional context, was a profound deviation from basic business etiquette, professionalism, customer service, and respect. Having dedicated years to working in customer service, including roles in five-star restaurants and providing service to senior state personnel, one quickly learns the indelible value of delivering quality service.

When this business, which ostensibly champions “morals of truth” and “working from the heart,” was calmly confronted about its communication, the response was shockingly dissonant. What was received was not a measured, professional reply, but an emotionally driven outburst, escalating to completely unwarranted threats of violence. While we all have challenging days and make mistakes, and compassion is always vital—we’ve all accidentally sent a misconstrued text, or had written information misinterpreted—the fundamental issue here was the fierce egoic response and the immediate resort to threats of violence simply because someone spoke their mind. It became glaringly obvious that this business owner did not “walk the talk”; they preached principles they themselves failed to embody.

The Crucible of Integrity: Lessons in Self-Mastery

Yet, every challenge contains a seed of growth. For my own personal development, this incident offered a fair amount of invaluable insight. I now perceive such moments as profound opportunities to grow, to develop greater strength, to speak my truth without fear, and to stand firmly in the unwavering strength of truth. In a curious way, I find such experiences rather rewarding for the clarity they provide. As I always affirm: “Great leaders will always Walk the Talk. They will show you, not tell you!”

My personal history, from childhood through my twenties, was marred by bullying. During periods of drug therapy, I developed a significant fear of confrontation, triggered by intense, violent reactions in my brain stemming from emotional responses. This created a deep-seated apprehension towards emotionally fuelled reactions from others, to the extent that there were times I had to ask others to draft emails for me when facing difficult communications. One crucial lesson I learned during this period, which remains paramount, is this: when confronted with an emotional trigger, never respond immediately.

You are never obligated to respond instantly, and in most cases, you absolutely should not. The email will remain, the work will be there, everything will wait. There is no need to react emotionally. It takes immense self-awareness and practice to seize control of that split second where we choose to react or simply pause and breathe. It is an especially challenging discipline for those not specifically trained in emotional management.

Having the opportunity to revisit such a confrontational scenario, and to stand up, be heard, and speak my truth, marks a major personal transformation compared to my past reactions. In both business and management, this skillset—the ability to remain grounded and communicate clearly amidst conflict—is critically important. I am still learning and exploring, but I now understand that how I respond in these situations is paramount. The way the other party responds, however, is not my problem; we have no control over their reaction. Their response is ultimately determined by their level of self-understanding, their emotional regulation, their perceptions, and the myriad other variables they are exposed to. As long as I focus on my own integrity and self-mastery, there is nothing to fear.

The Crisis of Credibility: A Call for Authenticity in Industry

This experience is not isolated. I have heard about and witnessed similar behaviours impacting others, and I have personally encountered such discrepancies from various sources. The spiritual, health, and wellness industries, regrettably, are not immune to this challenge. There are many businesses that incessantly claim to offer transformative solutions or embody high ideals, yet consistently fail to deliver on their promises. Businesses market themselves as “the best” or possess “the next big thing,” only to fall short of expectations. It’s akin to a business claiming to serve the “best steak sandwich in Perth,” only for the reality to fall woefully short! False claims, unmet expectations, smoke and mirrors, deception, and outright lies—where has credibility gone?

In a significant session with Amy (channelled through a trusted contact), it was revealed that our lives are meticulously planned so that we first learn certain lessons and then, authentically, teach from that lived experience. This divine blueprint ensures that we truly walk our talk. This path also compels us to discern the nature of what is presented to us by others: Is it merely “BS,” or is it a genuine opportunity for profound learning and growth?

Regardless of the situation, the imperative is clear: take full responsibility for your actions and your inactions. Embrace every opportunity to grow and learn. Denial, temper tantrums, manufacturing drama, causing chaos, and spreading rumors are all powerful indicators of the ego dominating your being. These are not expressions of the freedom humanity collectively seeks. Therefore, if you claim to be a professional in the health, wellness, or spirituality industries, you had better ensure you truly walk your talk. In today’s rapidly evolving and discerning world, genuine authenticity is not just a virtue; it is a prerequisite for survival.

Every moment provides a powerful opportunity for growth and development. Make the most of it, and let that moment empower you to transform the world around you.

Always, Walk the Talk.
